Home Decor Trends You’ll Love This Fall

Aww Fall it’s the season of change. As do the seasons continually change, so do home decor trends. Here are a few home decor trends you’ll love this fall and be seeing more of.

Dark Walls

While all white has been all the rage, dark walls are stating to insert itself in the interior design world and for good reason. The contrast that dark walls can produce are very esthetically pleasing. Plus dark walls add a certain mood to the room that white walls can’t produce.  I’ve been a fan of dark walls for quite some time so it makes me happy to see that they’re making their way into many people’s homes. Paint is always a good trend to get on board with. It’s easily changed and does not cost a lot of money. So if you’re feeling those dark walls, then go paint you some! Some popular dark wall colors include: Hale Navy Benjamin Moore, Dark Pewter Benjamin Moore, Naval Sherwin Williams, Down Pipe Farrow and Ball, Oasis Blue Benjamin Moore, Equilibrium Behr, and one of my favorites which is on my walls in my dining room above is Black Licorice Vista Paint. Velvet

Velvet is coming on strong this fall in the home decor trend section. Not only are velvet sofas becoming all the rage, but so are velvet accessories such as pillows, throws and curtains. I got to say I’m not made about this trend one bit! As George Costanza once said, “I would drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable.”  I really think I would too! The softness and unexpected layer of texture that velvet adds to a space is something to marvel at. Will this trend last? That remains to be seen, but I’m loving it for the time being. Woven Texture

Now this is a trend that I have been in love with since childhood! My mother has always had baskets on the wall and lots of baskets in our home, so it was only natural for me to do the same when I got my own place. It makes my heart happy to see this trend coming along and more and more people adding woven baskets, not only to their home, but up on their walls too! I get asked frequently where I got my baskets that are on my walls and honestly they all came from thrift stores! My mother has collected these babies for decades! I have some wall baskets linked, but keep checking your local thrift stores for the best ones.

Brass

Cause I’m all about that brass, bout that brass, no silver…haha! Ok so brass has been going strong for a while now and doesn’t really show any signs of stopping soon…be on the look out for matte black coming up on its heels though. This is a trend that comes and goes. So feel free to jump on board and throw some new brass hardware on your cabinets or get a brass faucet. Should you break the bank and invest heavily in these items, no. This trend will change, it always does. So don’t be disappointed when chrome or brushed nickel makes its come back, just know that when purchasing these items. That’s why I say spend wisely with your brass finishes. But the skies the limit with brass accessories like my brass vase.

Statement Lights

Statement lights are becoming more and more popular. I say its a good thing. I mean why do your light fixtures need to boring, they don’t! Especially with more companies making chandeliers and other light fixtures super affordable. This is a great way to add a little extra drama to a space. My pendant lights in my kitchen certainly make a statement. They are huge! 19 inches in diameter to be exact, but I love them. Here is a link for similar pendant lights that are less expensive.

Vintage/ Vintage Inspired Rugs

My love of rugs runs deep. I always say no room is complete without a rug. It just defines the space and gives another layer of  texture and pop of color. People are wanting vintage rugs or vintaged looking rugs. Kilim rugs are a great option. They give the look of vintage and unique without costing an arm and a leg. If you can afford a real vintage Turkish rug then go for it! But most of us can’t, so kilim is the next best thing. Also check your local thrift stores and consignment shops. I can’t tell you how many authentic vintage rugs my mom has found at these places.

Patterend Tile

If you’ve followed me on Instagram for while then you know I love patterned tile! Just take a look at my kitchen backsplash to confirm that. Cement tile has taken off in a big way over the last year or so. Gone are the days of plain solid colored tile. People want pops of color and pattern on their floors and for their back splashes now. Cement tile can be pricey and does require some added maintenance. That’s why I’m so happy manufactures are coming out with less expensive ceramic tile that looks like cement tile but without the price tag and maintenance. But my obsession for cement tile still runs deep. That’s why I just put it in my guest bathroom, see above picture.

Faux Finishes

So here’s a new trend that has come to the forefront recently. Its all about faux finishes. From faux shiplap to faux subway tile. People are even doing faux backsplashes using stencils like the in the photo above. Then they are taking to the floors and painting over tile with stencils too. I think this is a great solution for someone wanting to do some updates in their home and not wanting to over spend. Plus its all removable! So if in a year you don’t like that backsplash, just paint over it, or peel off the shiplap. I’m all about not spending a fortune when it comes to home design. I think this is a great option to change things up in your home for not a lot of money, and best of all its not permanent. So if you’re like me and get sick of things quickly, then this is the option for you.

Alright there you have it! These are some home decor trends you’ll be seeing more of in the fall. Overall I think they are pretty good ones. The thing with trends is though, they come and go. So spend your money wisely. Should you run out and get a $2000 purple velvet sofa, probably not. But should you go get some fab velvet pillows, absolutely! If you find a killer deal on a velvet sofa  and it’s something you really want, then I say go for it. Just keep in mind things like that most likely will be out of style sooner rather than later. My thoughts are spend money on larger items that are timeless and will never go out of style, then accessorize with items that are on trend.
