Sponsored Post By Rugs USA

Hello and welcome to the blog!! Today I am sharing all about rugs!! An absolute favorite topic of mine! That’s why I am so excited to team up with Rugs USA! They have a huge selection of affordable rugs for me to browse from. Changing out a rug is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to update or change a space. The start of the new year is a great time to start refreshing and updating rooms in your home. I have bought more rugs than I can count from Rugs USA for myself and for my clients. It’s my go to for quality affordable rugs. Click HERE to save 10% on all Rugs USA rugs!

I recently added this fabulous rug! It’s the Multi Cartouche Medallion Tassel Area Rug. It has a nice vintage look, but without the hefty price tag. It’s made out of Jute and Polyester so it will stand the test of time. I love layering rugs and this Jute rug from Rugs USA is my go to jute! I have had it for three years now and it has held up wonderfully. It is the perfect rug to layer on.

Continuing on with my New Year, new rug, I added a new rug to my entry. The colors are what drew me to this cutie. The Multi Iris Medallion Flatweave Area Rug is full of color and thin enough that it fits under a door perfectly. It’s made of polyester and cotton, so it is perfect for high traffic areas. It will wipe clean with ease. I also love that this rugs resembles a vintage rug, but without the price tag. I like to do a 3×5 ft rug at front doors. It is the perfect size!

Another bonus about the Multi Iris Medallion Flatweave Area Rug is that it has a pattern, so it will hide dirt and stains well. Perfect for muddy feet and paws.

I have been wanting to do a little spruce up in my master bath for a while. Of course I didn’t want to spend a lot of money or do a lot of work! So the addition of a new rug was the perfect solution. When I saw the Beige Raised Trellis Area Rug on Rugs USA I fell in love!! It is hand woven and made of wool. It has a beautiful brown color mixed with a nice cream. It is a great neutral rug.

When I originally ordered this rug I thought it was more of a taupe color, but when it arrived I saw it had more of a brown tone. So if this happens to you, don’t worry! You just need to bring in accessories with those same color tones. So I went ahead and switched up some pieces to bring in more earth tones. By doing so, it made the rug go perfectly in my space.

Rug Size

Choosing the right size rug for your space can seem intimidating at first, but these tips will help you feel confident in finding the perfect one! Area rugs help define a space. They add texture, warmth, and style. Your rug can be a focal point in your room or it can be used to just enhance the pieces around it.

Living Room

There are various layout options for a living room rug depending on your furniture and the size of your room. It is always best to measure your room before buying a new rug. Using masking tape to create a border on the floor will help you visualize the rug in your space. The Gray Argyle Trellis Area Rug makes the perfect living room rug.

Here are examples for the most popular layouts:

All Furniture on the Rug

This layout is a good option for large rooms. A 9’x12′ rug works well in a 12’x18′ or larger room. An 8’x10′ fits well in a room 11’x13′ or slightly larger.

Front Legs on the Rug

This layout fits nicely in an 11’x13′ or smaller room, using a 6’x9′ rug.

Only Coffee Table on Rug

A small living room can use a 5’x7′ rug for this layout.

Dining Room

The shape of the dining room rug will depend on the shape of the table. Round tables would use a round rug and rectangular tables would use a rectangular rug. It’s best to have all furniture rest on the rug in this room for safety reasons. You should plan for the rug to extend at least 24″, and no more than 36″, on all sides of the table so that when every chair is pulled out, it is still on the rug. The Gray Crosshatched Hive Fringe Tassel Area Rug from Rugs USA is perfect for dining rooms. It has a lovely taupe color and hides stains well.

Bedroom

In the bedroom, the bed is the focal point of the room and the rug is the base of the bed. Not only does the rug ground the space, it also provides a soft place for your feet to land. In this client space I layered the Gray Fragmented Stripes Braided Tassel Area Rug on top of the Off White Handspun Jute Area Rug. Layering rugs is a great way to add an extra layer of texture to a space.

The three main layouts for the bedroom are:

All Furniture on the Rug

For this option, make sure the rug extends at least 18″-36″ past the edge of your bed.

2/3 Bed on the Rug

This layout is probably the most popular. It uses a 9’x12′ for a king and an 8’x10′ for a queen.

Runners on Each Side

Runners are a great budget friendly option. The right size runner should not extend past the length of your bed and should be a bit wider than your nightstands.

Runners

Runners are a good choice for your kitchen, bathroom and laundry rooms. Keep them just a bit shorter than the cabinets or island for best visual appeal. In my laundry room I have the Gray High Low Tribal Bands Area Rug. It’s soft under foot and durable.

Bonus Tips
  • Use a rug pad to prevent slipping and sliding. Choose a pad that is 2″ shorter and narrower than the rug.
  • Layering rugs is a good way to create character and interest! Be sure to leave 12″-18″ on all sides to see the contrast of the two rugs.
  • Using an area rug on top of carpet helps anchor a space and protect the carpet.
