Refrigerator Storage and Organization

|

Oh the wonderful refrigerator. It hides many treasures and keeps many secrets. It’s the most used appliance in our home and yet probably gets neglected the most. From the outside the Fridge looks clean, crisp and put together , but on the inside it’s usually a hot mess!! So this post is dedicated to refrigeration storage and organization. So lets begin with the the before photos shall we.

The fridge doesn’t look too bad. I had cleaned it out last week and it isn’t in too bad of shape, but there was definitely room for improvement. Especially in my drawers.

I’m guessing my husband or children put the eggs in the refrigerator like that!!

So the first thing you need to do when prepping your refrigerator for a deep clean and re organization, is empty all the contents out. So grab a trash bag for any expired food and get to work!

Once you have cleared out the food its time to start scrubbing. I like to remove the glass trays and drawers and wash them in the sink with soap and water, but if you just want to leave them in and clean that’s fine too. I also like to grab my vacuum and use the hose to suck out all the crumbs and other goodies out of the drawers.

This was fun little surprise that I didn’t know was there! Apparently something got spilled in the refrigerator.

Yep and there’s some more. I believe it was chocolate milk and cranberry juice. If I hadn’t removed the drawers I probably wouldn’t have seen this, so it’s always best to remove all the drawers.

Scrub, scrub, scrub. I usually will just use a wet cloth with water in side the refrigerator. I don’t really like to spray any chemicals in there. And if you want my opinion on the best cloths to clean with they are cloth diapers!! The absolute best!! Super absorbent, soft and leave a clean streak free finish.

Ok so once you’ve cleaned the entire refrigerator and got rid of any expired food, its time to start organizing! So if you want to keep your fridge neat and organized then you have to invest in some clear storage bins. They keep everything in its place, and they just make your refrigerator look pretty. If you have a lot of time on your hands you can you write what each bin is used for, but my bins are always holding different items, plus I ain’t got time for that lol!!

This soda storage bin is the best! It keeps all the cans in one location and holds a good amount.

This egg holder is a must have!! It’s so much prettier than a regular old egg carton and keeps the eggs fresher longer. plus with the lid you can stack items on top of it and not worry about cracking the eggs.

Another must have is this storage bin with a handle. I love having this on the lower shelves and have the kids snack in it. That way they can access their snacks easily and aren’t asking me to get something out of the fridge for them. Plus I like to have healthy snacks for them in one location. Helps them to make better choices.

Now I shared this tip before on my stories but I always wash and cut up my fruit and veggies. I then put them in these handy glass containers. The lids on these containers are the best! I just washed and cut these strawberries yesterday and they’re already gone. When the strawberries were in the container they came in no one touched them for days! I fid this the best way to get the kids, and myself, to eat more fruits and veggies. If it’s all cut and ready to go, the more likely you’ll be to eat them.

I’m not a big fan of storing food or drinks in plastic. That’s why all my Tupperware is glass. I like to have glass juice jars as well. The benefit of the the glass is that the juice or food taste better, and the jar is skinnier than the plastic container it comes in, so it takes up less space.

If you’re not already using these awesome containers you should be! I put my husband’s lunch in them for the week. They can be put in the microwave and dishwasher too, plus they stack up nicely and neatly in the refrigerator.  The best part is they’re not very expensive either. My husband won’t take glass containers so he gets plastic! They’re like little take out containers, but filled with homemade food.

**Update** I have been using these refrigerator liners for over a year now and they are amazing!! You cut the liners to size and place them on your shelves. They make cleanup a breeze, and keep your glass shelves nice and clean!!

Ok So now it’t time to put everything back in. I like to wipe the items down as I put them back in too. Just makes everything extra clean and food or sticky stuff isn’t left on them.

I keep mostly condiments on the door. I like to similar items together. For example all the salad dressings together and all the mayonnaise and mustard. Makes it easier to find things.

My kids love to make quesadillas and burritos so I put all the items they need to do so in one drawer. Makes it a lot easier for them and me!

I love having all the ingredients for their sandwiches together and everything for their morning bagels…unfortunately we ran out of bagels!

Aww that’s better! Now my eggs and lemons aren’t rolling around!

This Wine holder and turn tray also good items to use in your refrigerator to help keep things organized.

And last but certainly not least is my favorite item for helping me get through the mundane tasks of the everyday. My Amazon echo Dot is my little companion. She plays my music, keeps a running grocery list, reminds me of important dates and answers any question I may have!! Don’t let the small size full you. Her speaker packs a bunch. I don’t know about you but when I have music playing it makes cleaning and organizing so much more fun!

I hope you found this blog post helpful. An organized house is a happier house in my humble opinion. Thank you for stopping by and please feel free to leave comments below, and be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss a thing!! I have some fun post coming up soon.
