After the Fireworks: Simple Decorating Ideas for the Rest of Summer

|

I hope you had a wonderful time celebrating our beautiful country’s 250th birthday with family, friends, fireworks, good food, and all the red, white, and blue! Now that the 4th of July has passed, it’s time to tuck away the flags and patriotic decor and give your home a softer summer refresh. You don’t have to completely redecorate or start over. A few simple swaps can help your home feel light, calm, and ready for the rest of the season!

Pack Away the Patriotic Pieces

Once the fireworks are over, I like to put away the decor that feels very specific to the holiday. Flags, stars, bold red accents, and anything that feels too 4th of July can be packed up until next year.

You don’t have to remove every bit of red, white, and blue, though. If you have pieces that still feel classic and summery, you can absolutely keep them out. The goal is to make your home feel less like a holiday weekend and more like relaxed summer living.

Keep the Summer Texture

Even after the patriotic decor comes down, summer texture can stay. Woven trays, rattan baskets, seagrass accents, linen pillows, and natural wood pieces all help a space feel warm and seasonal without being too themed.

These are the pieces that make a home feel collected, casual, and easy. A woven tray on a coffee table, a basket by the fireplace, or a pretty rattan accent can instantly soften a space for the rest of summer.

Swap in Softer Colors

After the bold colors of the 4th, softer shades can feel like a breath of fresh air. Creamy whites, sandy neutrals, soft blues, muted greens, and natural wood tones are perfect for July and August.

You don’t need to change everything. Try swapping a few pillow covers, adding a lighter throw blanket, or bringing in a vase or candle in a softer color. Small changes can make a room feel fresh without a lot of effort!

Refresh Your Coffee Table or Entryway

A coffee table or entryway is one of the easiest places to update after a holiday. You can keep it simple with a tray, a stack of books, a candle, and a small vase with greenery or stems.

For an entryway, try a pretty bowl, a lamp, a framed photo, or a vase with summer branches. These little spaces make a big impact because they are the first things you see when you walk into a room.

Add Greenery, Stems, or Fresh Flowers

Greenery is one of the easiest ways to make your home feel alive and fresh for summer. Fresh flowers are always beautiful, but faux stems, branches, or greenery work just as well and last much longer.

Try adding stems to a kitchen counter, a vase on a dresser, or a small arrangement on a nightstand. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Even one simple vase can make a space feel brighter and more finished.

Make It Feel Easy and Breezy

The rest of summer should feel simple. After the busy holiday weekend, I love the idea of creating a home that feels calm, comfortable, and easy to live in.

Clear a little clutter, lighten up heavy decor, and put out pieces that make your home feel peaceful. A few thoughtful changes are all it takes to move your home from holiday weekend to laid-back summer living. ❤️
