Kitchen Backsplash Installation With Floor & Decor

| |

Hello and welcome to my blog!! Today I am going to share my kitchen backsplash transformation! I partnered with Floor & Decor for this project. Floor & Decor is my go to store for all my tile! I have been buying tile from Floor & Decor for many years now. You just can’t beat their selection and prices. So first lets take a look at the “Before” of my kitchen backsplash. When we remodeled our kitchen two years ago I decided to go with a patterned backsplash.

When I first installed it I loved it! It’s a beautiful tile, but soon after installing it, I became tired of it. The pattern was just so busy and I had so much of it. I felt like it overwhelmed the kitchen and took away from my countertops and cabinets. I knew I should have gone with something more neutral. I began looking for a replacement tile, but nothing stood out to me. That was until I found the Villa Artisan Frost Porcelain Tile from Floor & Decor!

When I Saw the Villa Artisan Tile I immediately fell in love! I loved that each tile had a unique shape. It had the look of fire clay tile, but without the hefty price tag and maintenance.

With my new tile picked out, thus began the process of removing the old tile. This was no easy project, and lets just say my husband was not thrilled!

The original backsplash tile was installed directly onto dry wall, so when we removed it, it also removed the drywall. It was a messy ordeal, but well worth it.

It took us a couple days to remove the previous backsplash. Even at this point I already liked my kitchen better without the patterned tile! It felt so much more calm in my kitchen.

Now my husband and I can handle some DIY projects, but this one was out of our league. I had to bring in the big guns for this, my cousin! My cousin Christian is an amazing carpenter and tile installer. Christian and his friend immediately got to work cleaning up all the remaining drywall.

Now that’s better! They got all the drywall removed and it was time to install the HardieBacker.

Up went the 1/2 inch HardieBackerHardieBacker cement board is a tile underlayment made for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms. This cement-based backer board, made of 90% Portland cement and sand, resists damage from moisture and mold and provides excellent tile adhesion. It is a great for installing tile and makes it easier to remove as well. You can find HardieBacker and all your tiling needs at Floor & Decor.

We decided to lay the Villa Artisan Tile on a running bond pattern or staggered pattern. The running bond tile pattern is a secret tool you can use to keep things like uneven surfaces, crooked walls, small differences in tile sizes, along with other imperfections hidden from view.  Since it is a staggered tile layout the edges of the tiles don’t line up in a straight line. It is one of my favorite tile patterns.

Up the new tile goes!! I was so excited to see the first pieces of the Villa Artisan Tile go up. It looked so good with my countertops!

We used Mapei Type 1 Tile Adhesive from Floor & Decor. My cousin had never used this adhesive before, and said it was the best adhesive he had ever used! The best part is you can buy it at Floor & Decor when you get your tile. Floor & Decor is your one stop shop for all your tile needs.

Progress never looked so good! The Villa Artisan Tile from Floor & Decor looked even better than I imagined! I love that the tile has texture to it. It makes it look so unique.

We worked long in to the night, but we got all the tile up! With each new Artisan Tile installed I loved it more and more!

Ok onto the fun part…grouting! I really do enjoy grouting tile. It’s so satisfying seeing the tile get all finished. While I was at Floor & Decor I picked up my grout. I went with the same grout that the store had used on the floor display. Floor & Decor offers free design services to all their customers. So if you aren’t sure what tile and grout go together you can always ask one of their designers!

I went with Mapei 38 Avalanche KeraColor Unsanded Grout. The grout mixed easily and had a nice consistency. Plus the color is beautiful. When you first put the grout on it is a little darker, so you can see where it is going. Once it dries though it turns to a lovely white color.

Eek here it all grouted and cleaned!! I think I literally jumped up and down when it was all done. I love it so much. I couldn’t wait to get my kitchen all styled and pretty.

This was by far the easiest remodel/ DiY project we have done! Floor & Decor made it so easy with all their quality products and the fact that I was able to buy everything we needed at their store. I loved that I didn’t need to go to several stores for my materials.

I just can’t get over how different my kitchen looks. It honestly looks and feels like a brand new kitchen, but I didn’t have to break the bank in order to change it. Changing out your backsplash or adding a backsplash, is a great way to update and change the look of your kitchen.

One of the many reasons I choose Floor & Decor for my tile projects is that they have a wide variety of in stock products. You can go to the store and pick out your tile, and bring it home that same day! No ordering and waiting.

Not only does Floor & Decor have a wide selection of tile, they also have very competitive prices.

The Villa Artisan Tile is the perfect backdrop to my kitchen. Now I can style my kitchen with a variety of decor pieces because the tile is so neutral.

I fell like this how my kitchen should have looked all along. I just can’t say enough good things about the Villa Artisan Tile. It is just gorgeous! It also comes in three colors and is made in Spain. The quality of the tile is fantastic and the price is unbeatable.
